LAISVYDĖ ŠALČIŪTĖ IS A UNIQUE ARTIST. Who does not fall into any dominant current trend of Lithuanian art. Tough she employs different media working with graphic art, artists‘ books, objects, even embroidery, her natural element is drawing. Drawing is her nature, not a subsidiary means, but the way of comprehending the world. Diving into the substance of drawing she brings to life a completely authentic, individual, delicately sensitive word. The artist‘s word image is based on the personal experience and not less important – on feelings. Thus it is but naturalk that one recognisess here the features of common female world outlook. However, this is more the effect of the natural and personal speaking that the result of the realisation of some consciously chosen notion. The dramaturgy of Šalčiūtė‘s works (subject, stories ) is poetic, even lyrical. It is emotional. The artist prefers figurative art. But the figures and their surroundings (things) constitute peculiar dream words, somehow reminding of the fairytale environments of the Italian neofigurative art (i.e. Mimmo Paladino). These words are very fragile, drawn in a sensitive line and toned with unreal beatiful colours. Being natural the artist successfully avoids decorativism – she clings directly to beauty, somewhat like a child.
